In today’s age of Google Glass, Apple iWatch and whatever else has been released since I started typing this sentence, the plethora of emerging technologies often leaves users underwhelmed… inadvertently relegating said emerging technology to the ‘cool, but it’s dead and gone’ pile, to never again be remembered. But, why?
What’s that missing X factor?
A given technology’s failure to launch could be attributed to not actually resolving a real problem, or failing to address a real need. While it’s rare to accomplish this on a global scale (and infinitely harder to do so without endless marketing spend to convince people they have a problem in the first place), perhaps certain technologies have just been incorrectly applied… don’t you think? Maybe they just haven’t found their natural niche or the right angle to come at you from?
Cimagine Media may have cracked the key to augmented reality taking flight, albeit on a miniscule scale thus far. Through their tie-up with Shop Direct, Very.co.uk and Littlewoods.com, users can solve a real problem they face… interior decorating!
It’s simple! Scan your room… choose a product… see what it looks like! You can even reposition items where you’d like to them to be and walk around the room to look at the item from a different angle! How awesome is that?
It really is a win-win-win situation!
WIN! – The ‘vendor’ gets to showcase their product and simulate what it would feel like to own that product. What’s more is that they can show you the entire range… colours, sizes, options, not to mention the amazing cross-selling and up-selling opportunities this enables.
WIN! – The ‘customer’ gets to more accurately visualize what works, ultimately picking a product that’s just right! Let’s not forget the fact that it’s also really fun and a little trippy to mess around with such technology!
WIN! – Augmented reality makes a strong comeback!
